"I wanted to make an impact in a space that's historically been underserved. My sister is an educator so our mission is personal."

Our values drive the actions we take

We are 🤝 entrepreneurs

We are high agency people who care a lot about what we do. We all think and act like owners. We don’t ask for permission; we act independently and intelligently to get to the best answer and to move things forward.

We care about 🔨 craft

We care deeply about the quality of our work and always strive to build something great. At Playground, we don't settle for mediocrity. We believe in going above and beyond, whether that's solving internal challenges or serving our customers. And we spend the time to level up our skillset to make sure we’re always on top of our game.

We are ❤️ empathetic

We work in child care and we deeply care about the experience of our customers, their staff, the families at their programs and, of course, the children attending. We put ourselves in their shoes and lead with empathy in all that we do.

Our interview process

How we hire

We pride ourselves on having a high bar for hiring and seek out the best talent. We believe that endless rounds of interviews are unnecessary, and like to move fast with candidates we’re excited about.

The interview process at Playground varies based on role and candidate, but our standard process looks like this:

Step 1

Submit your resume

Submit your resume via our job listing.

Step 2

Exploratory chat

An introductory 15 minute phone call with someone on our team to discuss your career interests & relevant experience, and learn more about Playground.

Step 3

Skills assessment

An interview with someone on the team you’d be working on, digging deeper into your experience and technical skills.

Step 4

Day in office

The final part of our interview process is a paid, on-site interview in our Union Square, NYC office. We treat you like a member of the Playground team for a day and ask you to do the real work you’d be doing if hired. Get to know our team, in-office culture, and see for yourself why you should join Playground.

We recognize that completing work assignments requires time and effort, and that they are not perfectly reflective of the role’s work. Nonetheless, we think that work tests are a useful complement to interviews and reference checks.

We include this step to reduce bias and make more informed hiring decisions. Reviewing a candidate’s work allows us to better gauge how they might perform in the role, while the assignment also gives candidates a clearer sense of the type of work they can expect at Playground. If a candidate enjoys the task, it’s a good sign they would find the role fulfilling, and if not, it may suggest a mismatch.

Step 5

Final checks

We’ll ask for some references.

Step 6

Offer

We'll make you an offer!
